When does my plan validity start?

Validity starts when your plan activates — on arrival-activated plans, that is your first connection to a covered network.

Validity does not start when you buy the plan. When it starts depends on how the plan is set to activate: arrival-activated plans start on the first connection to a covered network (usually at your destination), while plans set to activate on scan start when you install the eSIM. Check Activation in the plan's Technical Specs. On regional or global plans, your home country or a stopover may already be inside the covered area, in which case the plan can start earlier.

How your eSIM works: 3 steps

1

Purchase

You have 180 days by default to install and activate the eSIM. If your plan has a different window, it is listed as Validity in the plan's Technical Specs; the exact deadline is the Activate Before date in your order email.

2

Installation

When you scan the QR code before your flight, your phone only downloads the eSIM profile — the line you then name (e.g. eSimExpress Travel). On arrival-activated plans this does not start the validity period — but if the plan is set to activate on scan, or your current network is already covered, it can start at installation.

3

Activation

On arrival-activated plans, turn off Airplane Mode and let the eSIM connect to a covered network — the validity period starts on that first connection. If the plan is set to activate on scan, the countdown already started when you installed it (and a regional or global plan whose coverage includes where you are can start without waiting for your destination). Switching the line off afterwards does not pause the countdown either way.

How days are counted

Your plan decides this, and it is not the same for every plan. Two common patterns:

24-hour cycles

Example

Each day lasts 24 hours from the time the eSIM first connects — for example, a 5-day plan activated at 2:00 PM Tuesday ends at 2:00 PM Sunday.

Calendar days

Example

Days follow the local calendar, ending at 23:59 local time, no matter what time you arrive.

No hidden charges
eSimExpress is prepaid: your plan will not auto-renew and your card will not be charged again unless you choose to buy another plan or a top-up. When a fixed data plan runs out, data stops; unlimited daily plans continue at the plan's FUP speed until the daily allowance refreshes, and only while the plan is still valid.
